The Story
The Salopian Bar sits on Smithfield Road, close enough to the river to catch walkers coming off the Quarry Park path, and far enough from the main tourist circuit to remain primarily a pub for people who care about the beer.

Smithfield Road runs along the river loop between the Welsh Bridge and the town centre. The Salopian Bar is an easy walk from either direction — ten minutes from The Square, two minutes from the Welsh Bridge.
Ask what is on before you order. The handpump range changes regularly and the staff know what is fresh. Salopian Brewery features alongside guests from smaller regional and national breweries. No keg taps, no lager on offer — this is a cask-only bar.
Weekday afternoons are the quietest. Weekend evenings fill up with a mix of locals, CAMRA members and visitors who have done their research. If you want a seat and time to work through the range properly, a Thursday or Friday afternoon is the better call.
The Quarry Park is ten minutes along the river — a good way to clear your head before coming back for another. The Armoury on the Welsh Bridge does food if you need something to eat alongside the afternoon.
